Our interview with Mareike

Today, we have invited Mareike Helmis for an interview!

Mareike joined us on 01 August and supports us in project and quality management to master audits and certification.

She replied to a few questions on her personality and on her tasks within the solvimus team:

If you could listen to one single song only for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?

“Adieu” by Rammstein.
Even though the tenor of the song is somewhat dark and deals with death as final farewell, there is no denying the fact that this is the course of life. It is inevitable. This is a plain fact.

Other than that, I have a very positive attitude 😉

Work is but half of the lifetime. What is your favourite leisure-time activity?

I adore walking in the woods – walking, not jogging. I love being outdoors.
Also, I read a lot, more precisely history books. I am especially thrilled by the British history.
And I like going to the cinema and on concerts. I love music 🎵.

How did you get to solvimus?

My former co-worker Romy has been working for 6 years in Marketing at solvimus. We are connected on LinkedIn, and thus the solvimus posts popped up. The online presentation and the social media posts were intriguing, and I kept liking the posts – hence I attracted the attention of solvimus and in the end, it was a match.

Why did you decide for solvimus, and what left a positive impression at first contact?

The initial phone contact with the HR business partner Sarah was very pleasant.
After she had invited me for an interview, I was impressed by how much time she dedicated to me. I was on the premises for more than two hours.
During the conversation I already noticed that there is a collegial approach at solvimus and, what is very important to me, that people show appreciation here.
There was even no need to enumerate all employee benefits to convince me *laughing*.

How was the first week at your new workplace? How were you integrated, and how was your onboarding thus far?

My first weeks, 4 to be precise, were marked by the preparation for our audit. I joined on 01 August and the audit was scheduled for 04 September. That translates into that the onboarding was postponed, respectively that I am still in this process.

But this is also a topic I appreciated in the interview. It was a play with open cards, and nothing was embellished. It was stated frankly what to expect, that the initial weeks could turn out turbulent and that the audit needs to be prepared.

I can add that I was never welcomed so warmly at a workplace. I felt being an integral part of the team. This has confirmed my decision to begin at solvimus. I know that I did everything right. And this is still the case *grins*.

What do you like most at solvimus? What is not so marvellous?

I appreciate working independently. I can assign time for my tasks and thus structure my day on my own.
And I get support and information swiftly that I need to accomplish my tasks. Quality management is not regarded as a necessary evil.
The working atmosphere and the way we interact with one another is also great.
And … as stated by Maik in his interview … I, too, have the shortest path to the coffee machine. 😉

What is not so marvellous? Not so evident.
I like personal interaction. I wonder why we interact via a chat software instead of going next door to discuss the subject.
Perhaps this a characteristic of our time, and I am simply too old for that *laughing*.

Tell us more about your tasks! What is a typical day at work?

Foremost, I am glad that the classical approach does not exist here. I can think and work without restraints.
As stated, I helped prepare our second audit in my initial four weeks.

I revise our documents and workflow instructions and fix our processes so that our work is eased. And the top priority is customer satisfaction.

To sum up, how would you describe the solvimus GmbH as employer to your friends?

solvimus is a company that one wouldn’t expect in Ilmenau. This holds for the employee benefits, the working atmosphere, independent working or mutual appreciation. For me, it was a true surprise that such a company exists in my vicinity.

Dear Mareike, we are happy that you are part of the solvimus team!
